New Macro Lens

May 14, 2012  •  1 Comment

Today I received my Canon MP-e 65mm f/2.8 1-5x macro lens.  The focus on this lens is crazy and it will take some time getting used to.  I took about 30 photos with it today and about 2 are keepers.  Here's the link to the 2 that are the best photos from today.  http://www.nicoleflynnphotography.com/p629841822

Now for the bad photos.  I really shouldn't show anyone these photos.  Since I'm still learning how to use this lens, I guess that I could use this to document my progress.  This lens isn't an auto focus lens, but it doesn't focus like a typical manual focus lens either.  It doesn't have a focusing ring.  So to focus the lens you have to move the camera closer or farther away to focus.  If you use this lens outside and the wind blows the subject is thrown out of focus.

Hi Nicole -- I own one of these lenses, and thoroughly enjoy it. I use focusing rails to help with the critical focus this lens requires. It's a difficult lens to learn, but *really* rewarding when it all comes together. Enjoy it!
